Volleyball Girls Finish Second in ILH

The Lady Eagles finished their season with a 12-2 record and took second place in ILH Division II, qualifying them for the HHSAA Division II state championships.

After losing to Roosevelt High and Kalaheo High in the first round, the Eagles did not advance to the quarter finals.

The match against Roosevelt was played out over five sets, with the Eagles coming close to finishing off the Rough Riders in the fourth set. However, as their opponent rallied and the Eagles made a hitting error, the game carried on into the fifth set. The final scores for the game were 25-19, 17-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-11.

Outside hitters senior Ashley Young and junior Emily Wada led the team in kills while libero junior Marissa Nakasone led in digs. Setter senior Jaryn Ramos made a game-high of 36 assists. Ramos was also chosen to participate in the Sixth Annual OC16 Senior Girls Volleyball Invitational. She was among 42 top players chosen from ILH and OIA schools to play in the charity tournament benefitting the Ronald McDonald House of Hawaii.

Looking back at the season, Young says, “We faced injuries throughout the season, but the pain didn’t stop us from working hard at practice. Everyday we would come to practice motivated for improvement.” She adds that she is proud of the girls for the all the sacrifice and dedication they put onto this season and wishes that they train hard for next season to bring home the gold.
