New Year, New Staff!

This new school year brings to the high school five new faculty and staff. To help the student body get to know them a little better, the Eagle Eye asked them to share a few things about themselves.

Mr. Charles Poore is the High School Christian Ministries Coordinator and moved to Hawaii from South Carolina. Some of his hobbies include surfing, hiking, streaming good TV shows, and watching sports, and he also used to keep bees on the mainland. As a former Spanish teacher, Mr. Poore is available to tutor Spanish students if they need help.

Mrs. Soyeon Brock, who’ll be teaching Algebra 2 and Geometry, was born in Korea and raised on Maui, which has been her American home for 20 years.

Mr. Aaron Brock, Bible teacher, is married to Mrs. Soyeon Brock. They met in Korea while working with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in Seoul. They have been married for 22 years and have four children—two daughters who are seniors in college and two sons, Nathan and Aaron, who also at HBA. The Brocks both love traveling, seeing new places, discovering new things, and eating new foods!

Mrs. Debbie Han, high school counselor, was also raised on Maui like Mrs. Brock. She moved to Oahu to attend college at UH Manoa, where she earned her bachelor’s in Secondary Education and Master’s of Education in School Counseling. Mrs. Han worked in the public school system for just over 15 years, spending most of them as a counselor at Roosevelt High School. She and her husband Kenny have two children, Cassie (9) and Canaan (12), and an elderly Tibetian Spaniel named Mango. Her family enjoys the beach, camping, hanging out with friends, playing pickleball, and attending Kaimuki Christian Church. To relieve stress, Mrs. Han likes to work out, sing karaoke, play “Just Dance” with her kids, listen to k-pop, and watch Korean dramas.

Mr. Jonathan Lee, Math teacher, was born and raised on Oahu. He graduated from Swarthmore College with a Bachelor’s in Engineering and later earned his Master’s in the Executive MBA program at UH Manoa while working as an engineer. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music. He used to play the cello as child. Once, he got to play Yo Yo Ma’s cello backstage at the Blaisdell while the famous musician was touring. Mr. Lee played volleyball from elementary school through college and still enjoys participating in sports. He’s done the Waikiki Rough Water Swim (2.3mi) and the Honolulu Marathon (26.2mi). Outside of school, you can find him running, biking, snorkeling, and singing in the car.
