HBA’s AP Environmental Science class had the opportunity to visit the National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) headquarters for Hawaii.
NOAA has at least one station in each state and also works around the world doing tasks from predicting the weather to tagging fish and other ocean animals.
The class was also able to board the Oscar Elton Sette, one of two vessels that are used for scientific missions within the Pacific. On the ship, students toured the command center and the engine room, and were shown the many tools used to collect data and rid the ocean of debris. The tour concluded with a surprise of cookies from the ship’s two cooks who were more than willing to tell of the many adventures the Oscar Elton had seen.\
